Pedal With Purpose: How Cycle Chelan Builds Community Beyond the Ride

If you’re thinking about signing up for Cycle Chelan 2026, you’re probably picturing the hills, the lake, the wine stops, and the wind in your hair. But there’s something even more powerful beneath the pedals: a real, lasting impact on our Lake Chelan community. This ride gives you more than an adventure…it gives you purpose.

1. A Ride that Gives Back

Cycle Chelan is more than a cycling event, it’s the Lake Chelan Rotary Club’s signature fundraiser. Proceeds from the ride go directly into scholarship funds that support students from Chelan and Manson, whether they’re pursuing academic degrees or technical training. By joining, you’re helping build opportunities for local youth.

2. Four Rides, Four Ways to Make a Difference

There’s a route for every type of rider, and every rider, in turn, supports something bigger:

  • Cycle di Vino (30 miles): A beginner-to-intermediate ride along the lake, stopping at wineries.
  • Lake Loop (45 miles): Takes you around both shores of Lake Chelan, including scenic climbs.
  • Metric Century (62 miles): A more demanding course with ~4,000 feet of climbing.
  • Signature Challenge 100 (100 miles): A full 100-mile route incorporating all the challenge and beauty of the Valley, including the McNeil Canyon climb.

Regardless of which route you choose, you’re contributing to the same mission.

3. Fully Supported From Rest Stops to Wine Taxi

No matter which ride you pick, you’ll get excellent support: rest stations, aid stations, directions, and safety measures. For those riding Cycle di Vino, there’s even a wine taxi to bring your winery purchases back to the ride base so there’s no need to carry bottles on your bike. Plus, at each participating winery stop, you collect poker chips. Buy a bottle, receive extra chips, and put them into our drawing for prizes!

4. Make It a Weekend.

Cycle Chelan is the perfect excuse to visit or stay local. The valley offers everything from resorts to condos & rentals to camping & RV options, including at Chelan High School (where ride headquarters is) for a modest donation to Rotary. Staying the night means you can really soak in the experience. Wake up lakeside, ride through orchards, enjoy wine tasting, or soak up the rural charm with an unforgettable weekend in Lake Chelan.

5. Community That Stays With You

One of the most beautiful things about Cycle Chelan is how it connects you to the heart of this place. Local volunteers, Rotary members, winery owners, and riders all come together. It’s not a race, it’s a celebration. By riding, you join a legacy: past participants come back year after year, not just for the challenge, but for the camaraderie and knowing that their ride is doing something real for students here.

6. How to Join (and Why You Should)

Here’s your roadmap to ride + give:

  1. Choose your ride. Decide if you’re in the mood for wine stops, gentle cruising, or a serious climb.
  2. Register early. This supports scholarship fundraising and helps the Rotary team plan.
  3. Train smart. Even a little preparation makes the course way more enjoyable.
  4. Consider lodging. Stay in the valley to extend the experience.
  5. Invite others. Bring a friend, family member, or fellow cyclist. It’s more fun together.
  6. Volunteer or promote. Can’t ride? Help out, or share the event to spread awareness.
